We might be asked to perform two songs if our band does well in the talent show this year, so we were considering either:

Dream On by Aerosmith or Schism by Tool

Our line up consists of
-A damn good drummer who already knows Schism
-A great female vocalist who knows Dream On
-A guitarist/vocalist with a fairly good voice for Tool type stuff
-A lead guitarist
-A fairly good bassist

Any suggestions as to which would go down better?

Is there a reason you can't learn both?

Yeah we can only perform two, one of which is going to be Hotel California

My vote would go with Dream On (even if it is Aerosmith  ). I'm guessing your audience wont consist of that many musicians, so they're more likely to pay attention to the vocals anyway, and if your singer is a great singer who aleady knows the song...

Go for Dream on - it's a better known song, and has been recently sampled by big time acts, so people who don't know it will still recognise it.

It's also fun to play IMO :D

Dream On, its goes with Hotel California better than Schism.

^^^ I agree...

I'm all for playing some Tool... in fact I'm listening to Schism right now... It would surely clash with the stylings of The Eagles though. go for Dream On. It's too bad that your drummer won't get to show off his stuff on a Tool track though... You should have him do a drum solo between Hotel Cali and then go straight into Dream On.... that'd be sweet.

Yeah I think we'll go with Dream On. We don't really have enough notice to prepare a song like Schism anyway. I guess we'll just let the drummer ad lib a bit
