Ok well i know it exists but i cant find it on the internet
because "tapped harmonics" keeps coming up and that is
not what i want.

Have any of you ever seen Laiho from Children of Bodom
doing a tapping solo then with lets say

his ring finger on 12
pinky on 15
and index (or whichever finger used for tapping) on 19
he taps 19 and bens up with all three fingers but its not just a bend
its a pinch harmonic.

Just wondering how in gods name do you do a tapping pinch harmonic
if anyone knows? It'd be great to learn so i could do them with sweep tapping.

Thanks.

I'd be interested to know how that works as well, I've seen Marty Friedman doing it... you say that Alexi taps the note on 19 with his index finger? I was just thinking that if he was using his middle finger, that would leave his thumb and index free to pick the harmonic...hmm...

19 was just an example but its irrelevant if your method
is what he uses.
but i tap with my middle finger
and getting your thumb and index down to the string in a controlled
manner is pretty hard...but its Alexi is amazing never know..

Anyone else?

Is it possible that he has the whammy bar in his palm to make the vibrato and touching his pinkie after the tap to sound the harmonic, or have you seen videos of him doing it the way you described?

In the solo here at 2:44 he uses the whammy bar in the
beginning of the solo then does a quick run
and at about 2:49 there is a clear pitch (pinch harmonic)
and at exactly 2:49 pause it it shows him in a tapping position?
and if you watch after it shows the right hand i watched a few times
over and didn't see him holding the wammy bar...maybe i'm wrong.

take a look.

a tap harmonic can give that tone?
well i had no idea...

im pretty sure it depends maily where u tap it

most people tap 12 frets above givin the most basic harmonic,

when u pinch harmonic u normallly hit a very harmonic, giving it part of its sound.

so if u tapped in the right place i recon u would get a pretty similar tone.

the logic for this is alos i once tried using pinch harmonics 12 frets above the frettted note and it was similar to a tapped one.

at least i thought

I think he's goes from the pinch harmonic, into the tapping, then does a naturnal harmonic right after the tapping.

this is me playin a harmonics, then there is a gap and then i play some more harmonics. one of them set of harmonics is tapped and the other ones are pinched.

try and guess which one is which

sometimes i fcuk them up but basically you can see they dont sound that different.
