So don't push my buttons. I can ban people now. Nah, mostly I'll leave the banning to someone else, LATS, and Schmange, and Doc Simon are always down to drop the nuke on someone. I get to move threads all over the place now so I guess that's reason to celebrate. :p

LMFAO! At the very least, it's always good to have a plan - though I hope long-time GT members will all be given significant positions of powers? I'd like to volunteer for 'Secutary Of Decent Music'. If that position's already filled, could I be 'Head Of String-Changes And Other Guitar Adjustments' ?

Just a thought...

Back in the day, those positions were called "m'Lord Chamberlain" and "Knight of The Garter".

We'll wear dark robes, and recite incantations, and call ourselves The Opus Tricks. In absence of GT, we go to the dark side.

Congratulations mate, welcome to the dark and scary world of the super-mods where you get to see all of GT in all its glory!

You will be leaping and deleting small posts and outrunning steaming trains of thought in no time !

And just be a little careful when banning people by IP number as it is possible to lock out all of AOL !

Mwuuuuu Haaa Haa Haaa !

Jon holds the Ultimate Power as the Webmaster of this site. We have a long history of sorting things out quietly amongst ourselves, but if any of us were to get irredeemably out of hand, we are answerable to our Webmaster.

The system works because of the quality of the people who contribute to it.

So far, so very good.

My sense of humor, personality, and argumentative nature ( which Im working on ) has rubbed a few people the wrong way in past debates.
And I have had a few heated exchanges which I regret, but sometimes s**t happens. My question is what does a moderator look for to justify baning somebody? And if you do get baned is there diffrent levels, or lengths of time to fit the crime, or is it one strike and your out? Are you notified before being baned, or does it just happen, and is the banee is just out, and can they get back in after a peroid of time?
Also I am just noticing the scale looking thing in the right hand top of posts that you click on for reputation points, and the caution triangle for reputation comments. How does that work? Is it good to have points, or good not to? Where do you monitor yours, and other peoples reps. and who determines how many points you get, and how many get taken away? I cant find the user reputation columns for all GT registered users. And lastly can just any one make reputation good, or bad comments, or is it for mods. to do?

A mod will only ban you if you are being a jerk and not letting up. If you constantly insult people or sh*t on their opinions or anything like that over a long period of time, chances are you will be banned. The mods will always warn you to knock it off first, though, so don't get too worried. Basically you just have to mind the forum rules and be courteous to other GT members and you're safe.

Rep points are something you can do to let someone know you agree or disagree with what they said. If there's a discussion going on and you think someone made a good point (or said something that made you laugh), click on the scale thing and check off the "I agree" thing. You can leave them a little message too, if you like. On the other hand, if you found what they said to be rude or insulting, click on "I disagree."

The reputation columns, by the way, can be found if you click on the Members List at the top of the page. If you click on Reputation once you get there, it will organize all GT members in order of rep (highest to lowest).

Ooh, look! People have said nice things to me and I didn't even know it. So, do you reply or just sit and feel pleased with yourself?

I have to admit that for a while I was an addicted member of Ultimate-Guitar  It was purely because of the mass member s there and the useful advise I got. Yeah, some people are total jackasses, but you get useful tips. Also, people reply faster, I posted something here and at guitartabs.cc about 3 or 4 hours ago and not 1 reply  On UG it would have several. But not to sound like I am bad mouthing GT Mr.Ninja sir. Good job I am banned on UG now :) *few*

magicninja

well having been to UG on occasion I have to say the quality of the advice here owns everything they do over there. For sheer dumbassery and pics of booty they got us beat though.

Yeah, I'd have to agree there, but you have to wait for you answers alot here, like on this thread here http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20059

I'd rather wait a week for a detailed and helpful reply from the likes of PRSplaya, LATS, or the Doc, than get 10 replies in an hour that offer little in terms of what I'm looking for.
