Which is more important - Technique or style?

I for one don't like reading interviews with famous players who claim to know nothing of music theory, and would have us believe that they were born with the ability to play and musicality that they have... Latest guilty party I've read saying that kind of stuff is Carlos Santana. I reckon he probably had to practice once.

I guess if you had no technique, style wouldn't matter and vice versa. Assume you have the choice of being 'average' in one and 'outstanding' in the other, which would you sell your soul to the devil to have?

many people have gotten famous without any idea of technique at all. alot of modern people for example.

of course most of them suck.

style is what identifies you. I vote style.

I think that style comes from technique. The way you hold your guitar, bend notes, pick notes, etc....all are your own technique that defines your style. They are related. I say both b/c of this....

Agreed. The two are interdependent, and screw theory! :p But in the end, it's your style, not your technique, that most people will remember, IMO.
