Are there any bass amps that are around 30-50 watts (large enough to gig, but small enough to be portable) that also sound really good for guitar?

I play both, and I was wondering if anybody had experience interchanging bass and guitar amps. I play jazz and blues, and any distortion I get I use pedals. The guitar tone I like is Pat Martino's when he used solidbodies (early 90's). I also like SRV's tone. For bass I want a big full sound (NOT like the thin soud of Jaco).

I have both a strat and jazz box, and I also have a 6 string bass. The bass has sounded really good through ampeg bass amps, but I'm not sure about the guitar.

Is there any amp that can do both guitar and bass (not at the same tme, but can be used for either)? I've looked at the Roland JC series, but I'm not sure it can handle the bass... I've looked at the Fender Bassman, but it seemed really cumbersome to lug around, and I've had bad experience with tubes and older model amps...

Thanks!

that thread should explain most things

DONT PUT A BASS THROUGH A NORMAL AMP AT HIGH VOLUMES IT WILL BREAK IT

im not sure it will sound good for guitar, will be very bassy

yeah, check out that other thread.

basically, the lowdown is... guitars sound good through bass amps. especially clean.

as for what amp you'd like best, I dont know bass amps, so I really cant help you much... just go do your local guitar shop and try them out.

The thread you attached didn't really mention too many actual model amps. Is there anybody who has had a lot of experience that knows what I might be looking for?

Click the search button at the top of the page and then select Advanced Search. This topic has been discussed in depth in a lot of threads. If you find a thread that almost gets you there, but not quite, just post a reply to it, and it will come up to the top of the listing where everyone can see it.

BTW: 30-50 Watts is not enough power for a gigging bass player, unless your guitar player is using a 10 Watt rig, and your drummer is using pencils. You need about 3 times as much power as your guitar player.
