I've just read an article shown >>here (http://www.guitarnuts.com/amps/myths.php)<< that talks about wattage in guitar amplifiers.

"All other things being equal, a 100-watt amp will be just perceptibly louder than a 50-watt amp. It takes about a ten-fold increase in power to double perceived volume. That's right, you'd need a 500-watt amp to be "twice as loud" as your buddy's 50-watt amp. Even more thought-provoking is the fact that a 50-watt amp will only be perceived as a little bit louder than a 15-watt amp driving the same cabinet! "

is this true?

that doesnt sound right.. thats like saying a 20 watt amp is only twice as loud as a 2 watt amp.

I can't tell much difference in volume between 50 Watts and 100 Watts, my 50 Watt JCM800 is just as loud as my buddies 100 Watt JCM2000.

It's not true that 100 watts is twice as loud as 50 watts. Can't explain it though.....

if only they measured amps in Decibels or something! then it would be comparible.

and PURE - it's a exponential equation i think, like he said that a 50 watt amp is louder then a 15 watt powering the same stack but only slightly. so it's not a rule of division by 10.

Send a pm to LATS, he'll know.

After all, this part of GT was made because of him.
