Okay, I've heard lots of positive things about the Agiles they sell at Rondo music (www.rondomusic.com) and have it on good faith from a few of my guitartricks brothers that they're well worth the relatively few dollars they cost.
How about the cheaper ones they sell there, the SX guitars? Anyone tried one of those? Because I've been eyeballing the LP Jr. knockoff they have; $99 for a solid mahognay body and neck with two P90's, and left handed to boot??? Crap, I'm there! For the cost I'm not worried about electronics at all, since they'll last like 3 days before they're gutted and redone, but, wondered if anyone can chime in about overall build quality.

I dunno, we get quite alot of sx guitars out here, and the seem to look really nice...we dont have any Les Paul/Mahog type guitars, mostly strat and tele knock offs.
To be honest I thought their build quality was not the best, but I guess thats to be expected seeing as they cost about half of other Fender kncok-offs.
I reckon they're probably worth the cash, but why are you interrested? dont you alreday have a 2humbuck/mahog guitar? If so why would you need another, worse one...unless you are looking to use this as a cheap backup instrument (so as to avoid travelling with an expensive axe) I really dont see why you want to buy one.
just becuase its a great price doesnt mean you have to buy it...but if you have a good reason, I'd say try it, and if its nice enough, buy it...at 99$ you cant really go wrong
sx guitars are rondo's cheaper quality axes.
somewhere on the site it said this but i can't find it anymore.

I bet they're good. I trust Rhondo entirely.
http://www.rondomusic.net/segstdplus.html ... I mean, come on. that is a PRETTY looking guitar for what... 160?!

dude rondo hides like half their guitars. I search that name up and i don't even see that model. aaaah im pretty sure rondo would sell more if it showed everything.
but the sx guitars rondo shows are definitely cheaper quality than the agiles. but you can't beat that price.

I've got an SX bass, and it's quite good for my purposes. I'm planning to sell it, and my teacher says I could get a decent price for it, so it must be passable quality. I've got a friend who has an SX Strat copy, and it's a dream to play. About two-thirds the price of my Aslin Dane, and about three times as good!
I say go for it, man. You can trust SX in my experience.

Thanks for the input, bros. Basically I have some extra cash (the only good thing to come out of working two jobs) and I'm just kinda looking for a diversion... I was thinking it'd be cool to do something kind of crazy, like add a Fender Esquire-style booster switch, a blend pot to select pickups, and a 3-band EQ or something like that... you know... just kinda play around. I just want to have a good canvas to go off of; if it's made of crap woods and etc, then there's absolutely no point at all.
I'm also toying with the idea of getting an Epi Valve Junior head and modifying it with a Torres Engineering Rectifier kit; that'd be kind of cool, putting a recto on a little one-tube, one-knob 5 watter. And it'd keep me occupied for a few days.

SX Guitars are great! I bought one a couple years ago from www.rondomusic.net and I have NEVER had any problems. I cant quite remember the model name off hand but it was the Gibson Eqplorer look alike (the $160 one) and I also vought the offset V shaped one. I love them both, and that comes from a guy with Gibsons, Hammers, Ibanez's, Deans, and BC Rich's. They sound awesome and are WELL worth the price. And the Rondo Music staff are very friendly

What are these guitars made of? Cookie dough?
Prices are insane, I had to take a closer look like for finishing and all those small details but I'll consider to check then up, some of them are pretty nice (like the 7 strings or the baritones).
Nice.

The best way to tell is play it without plugging in to an amp. If you get a nice sound from the body alone then its a good guitar. The sound you are looking for is a full ring. and at a reasonable volume. The chinese instruments on ebay are not woth looking at because of the cheap build quality. The heart of any guitar is in the wood. I read about this years ago in guitarist magazine and use this as my guide all the time.

I agree the real soul of a guitar lies on the resonance of the body (actually the whole guitar) but testing it without pluggin in makes a limited test, I know you can switch pick ups and electronics later but a test drive to the factory eletronics I think it's important too. Crappy electronics are pretty usual, but time to time you can get surprised (in positive or negative way).

I just got one of this SX Guitars from Rondo. And for the price you can't beat it. I got Guitar Package Includes Callisto Guitar, Guitar Amp, Instructional DVD, Carry Bag, Strap and Cord and tuner for $109.00. For a beginner that a great price. And if for some reason you don't stick with it you are only out $109.00
