How do you set your pedal, which goes first to get a better signal

depends what pedals you have and its more personal preferance then a certain order

Typically, you would do something like this... EQ, compression(these two may be switched depending on personal preference), wah(can also be added first for placement convenience), overdrive, modulation(chorus, flanger, phaser, etc...), and last goes your time based effects(delay, reverb, etc...). But, it really all depends on what sounds best to you.
