How much money do signed bands usually make from the sale of CDs? On a per CD basis I mean.

$5? $2? $.50?

For major labels, it's somewhere around $2 to $5, I think, with studio time, promotions, and an advance paid for by the studio, at least this is what I believe from what I have gathered.
Of course, if you are someone like Ani Difranco, who publishes her own CDs, you make about $15 (how much are CDs in USA? This is an estimate conversion from Aus, in which she would make about 27 out of 30 dollars for a CD), though she has to pay for promotion and everything.
The money that doesn't go to her goes to the record store, obviously.
