View Full Version : Left handed guitarist
Hi All
I am a lefty and struggle to find good quality left handed guitars. There seems to be masive amount of cheap and nasty guitars however nothing in the mid range and few in the high range and of course only certain styles.
Any one else have this problem? Anyone in australia know of somewhere that does sell them?

Yup... I'm a lefty. I taught myself to play righty too, primarily becasue of the exact same frustration you're talking about. I own two righties, but, I prefer to play left handed because it feels more natural and more fluid.
Fender makes lefty guitars; sadly, some of the really cool versions they make (Big Block series, Tex Mex series, Cyclones) are either not available left handed, or they are made in such small numbers that it's not even work noting. I have a left-handed Mexican Standard Strat; people will talk lots of smack about them, but, I love mine, and there are a few other people here who love theirs.
I also have a Kramer Night Rider; it's a really killer axe. I absolutely love it. The thing sounds, plays and feels like a million bucks... it cost $300, shipping included. I don't know if they'll ship to AU but you can try... www.musicyo.com
I have a Gretsch Bo Diddley that I made left handed that sings. It took some tricks; I moved the three knobs on the body into one concentric pot switch by the neck, so that the controls are OK, flipped the pickups upside down and sent it in for a really good resetup.
You can try www.adirondackguitar.com too, they'll ship, and they have a massive selection of lefties all up and down the price range. Good luck...

Like me, for example.

I'm also a lefty, but I learned to play right handed because of two things:
1. Unless you have a left handed instructor, it's difficult to "watch and learn"
2. The availability of left handed guitars is far less than righties. Having said that, there have been a few times when I went to look at a guitar, picked it up, only to be dissapointed because it was a lefty. ;)
