I own a Fender Vibrolux (reissue, about 5 years old), and I had to get a speaker replaced.
After the repair guy (the only authorized Fender electronics repair guy within an hour of my home...) replaced the speaker, my amp has been returned to me with a difficult to describe weakness. It used to be too loud for anyone to stand, and now it only gets about half it's old volume, it sounds incredibly "trebley", and it begins distorting at '2', with out of control distortion by '5'. It kindof sounds like I'm playing through my old crappy high school practice amp.
I took it back, and the genius as the repair place said he couldn't find anything wrong with it, and asked if he wanted me to do a modification. Apparently the guy thinks a Vibrolux is supposed to sound like a 15 W practice amp. Unbelievable.
This seems to me like it isn't simple, has anyone had this happen to an amp, where it didn't break down, it just got weaker? All tubes have been checked, speakers have been checked, what else is there? ANY feedback or similar experience would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith
