I was just talking to elklander on GT chat, who was talking to stackny on AIM. Apparently stackny has been banned. To which I say, "Why, God, why?!"

Seriously, though. I'm really gonna miss that crazy little bugger. We had some good times. Now who am I supposed to carry on entire conversations between asterisks with?

*sigh*

Well, I was waiting for the appropriate time to post this pic, but now it looks like that day will never come. I was gonna wait until stackny said something really wild again (like that time he said Canada was useless, or that time he insisted all foreigners learn to speak English), and then post this:

Goodbye, my friend.

The GT rules exist for a reason.

When Mods post something it is a good idea to take notice and it is a really bad idea to try to argue with them.

He got a slapped wrist nothing more.

However people who are continually disruptive need not be surprised if they end up being banned.

It has happened many times before, and getting PMs from mods that have words like "official warning" in the title is a sure sign you are walking the line.

Just for elaboration, Simon doesn't mean that you can't debate with Mods when they post something like "Eric Clapton really isn't that good." What he means is when Mods post something like "we should all calm down here" or "this may be going too far" the intelligent response is not "you have no sense of humor" or "sod off" as the English say.

Banning means you can't log in.

No posting.

No chats.

No PM's.

No participation.

Banned.

Sorry Akira but mommy ninja left for a month and the kids went mad. Worship me instead!

Some people do have the knack of pushing the envelope. I like to have a bit of fun myself you guys know me by know but it does get tireless trying to keep up with some of the blatant nonsense posted up. It seems to me and correct me if I'm wrong but 94% of the threads that are posted in the open discussion get sidetracked to talking about lmao jobs and who wants to creep in who's room and this guys a German and pictures of stuff and chuck norris and some one got castrated by pirahna and Pesci knows what else. Every thread guys, gets to this point. imagine us poor mods trying to keep up with all that madness and trying to take it all in stride. Even I look at some of this stuff and feel like deleting half of it. Sure it's funny. People on this board have built thier entire rep point stock on it. There was sure to come a time when some of the elder members who are here strictly for guitar purposes and not our (yes me too) horrible nonsense, got really sick of seeing it everyday. I like the fun bits don't get me wrong but some people take it way to far way to often. I don't wanna see no one else getting into any trouble. If you can't do it for the kids then please do it for me. Post something proper for the ninja. At least not every post has to be smart or ridiculus. I'm sure you all have more brains than that. I'd heed Mr. Broderick's warning. He don't post very often in the regular forum area, so when he does he surely means business.

But the open dicussion part is really the only place it gets out of hand. Whenever serious questions are asked about guitars, they are answered seriously and really don't get out of hand/ off topic. That said, the open discussion is gettin a little crazy.

I agree. Even though I am guilty of random posts myself (for which I sincerely apologise), I think it's getting out of hand. I vote we restrict our randomness, to the greatest extent possible, to the "yep" thread. I mean, that's what it's there for...

rockonn91

The only thing is, if it's in the yep thread, it's not really random. Randomness is expected there, and so it would be far more random to say something about guitars.

The yep thread is spilling into other threads. I can't say I haven't played a small part, but posting random things in EVERY SINGLE THREAD is getting a bit tired. I know I quoted your post here, but I am by no means blaming you for it, but what I was going to say had to do with the "yep" thread. I mean, I think it is absolutely, unshakably HILARIOUS when someone goes "creme brulee" and posts a picture of some creme brulee out of friggin' NOWHERE. However, it seems to have gone pretty far and in threads where people have absolutely nothing to contrbute, they content themselves with posting a picture of a llama shooting a giant laser or something.

Part of the problem is people dont correctly title their threads, and then people go there expecting something and then they see something they didnt come for, so they just post some stuff to make up for going there.

some threads.. Yep ; Wow ; wuh tuh fuh?! ; What is wrong with yall

probably correctly titling our threads will solve some of it.

i think we should be able to lock our threads when the question we asked gets answered.

Exactly, Jolly. It's because those of us who know nothing of theory, tech specifics, etc. just want to be part of the GT family. About all I contribute that is helpful is some advice for beginners. And it's not like I'm the only one that does it, either. The questions I answer could easily be answered by anyone else on the boards. So I guess my posting of random things is just my little way of shouting "love me."

That said, I agree. Random funny is the best type of funny, but too much is too much. I think everyone should only randomly post in threads that are a) already going that direction, or b) long dead, so no one will care.

a) how will the threads get off ttopic if you can only post after its off topic?
b) nobody likes reviving dead threads, and if the thread's dead, nobody cares about the randomness.
there will be no point in posting random stuff in a dead thread since nobody was expecting anymore posts in that thread.

Just let some threads run thier course. Like say when a new member posts for the first time. Welcome the guy or gal ,ask about them and get to know them. Don't scare them away with pics of rotten apples. If someone is asking a serious question in open discussion don't turn it into a circus. If someone posts a thread that's supposed to be funny and lighthearted well then ok a little nonsense is fine. Just don't take it to far. The sexual innuendo stuff is wearing a bit thin. Especially on a board where there is two count 'em two regular female posters. I just think we can do better.

sometimes it fits to make a random post. sometimes, things seem random, but they aren't; they're just something related in such a remote fashion that it's really just stretching it to its limit.

part of the problem is that someone makes a random post, and then people respond with more randomness... and then if someone tries to get the thread back up, it's either ignored for the sake of more random garbage, or it's already gotten so bad that no one is even paying attention to the thread for its original purpose.

personally i find it frustrating as sin. i'm very into random humor; read my comics sometime. but when you're searching around for something interesting in the Open Discussion forum, and each thread you click on is people throwing retardation back and forth at one another, it is beyond annoying. I'd rather stumble upon a heated debate that I end up tearing my hair out over than another gibberish thread... because i can grow more hair, i don't know if i can convince them to let me out of the straitjacket!

Look, I do the same thing. Because sometimes the old adage is true: A picture is worth a thousand words. And saying "wow, it's like a ghost town in here... I can see the tumble weeds a-blowin' through" just isn't as amusing or forceful as seeing it. I have absolutely nothing against this, and part of it is that it's not random: images like that are put up in response to something that is actually gonig on in the thread, such as things being quiet.

The problem arises when people appreciate it too much and want to participate, and then they go nuts over it. And more than the images I found the dialogue to be nonsense. Thank you, I prefer to watch monty python than read it, especially when I'm trying to read about something interesting.

It seems like everyone has gotten the gyst of what we're trying to say... we've got a few good threads going right now; go contribute to em!!! It's a hell of a lot more fun to read things that are ACTUALLY FUNNY than are just retarded.
