Ok guys
i need to know from you
i dont go for guitar classes
ive got myself an awesome guitar[all my friends who are great have told me]......... do u think i can learn from this forums/site from scratch or is going to going to classes abosolutely necessary?
and the guitar basics lessons that i use on the main site stop after how to read a guitar tab
do i have to pay 5 dollars to continue learning???
i live in india so........

NO, lessons are not absolutely necessary. They would help but there arelots of guitarists who are self tought.
Yes, you do have to pay $5 to stay learning on THIS SITE for high bandwith. But i can recommend other site that have free learning.

Also, you can learn a lot just from the forums here. While five dollars a month is a pretty sweet deal (much less expensive than lessons), the forums also can provide a wealth of information for zero dollars a month.

All you really need are books or other reading material, people to communicate with (like in a guitar forum), and something to practice on (a guitar).

sure i dont mind paying 5 dollars
but im in india
and the system of payments and stuff confuses me
and i do have a good guitar and im gonna buy some books and stuff

cheers mate...eric clapton learnt on his own...look at him now... there are heaps more of famous people that learnt on their own i bet...correct me if im wrong but i read it from somewhere...

not doing chords
is that ok
or should i absolutely do chords

We've all got to start somewhere, where you start is up to you. I wouldn't advise to never consider doing chords, but you don't necessarily have to begin with chords.

No, you will learn chords by playing tabs. Just make sure to find out what the chords are as you go along.

Branching off of this, make sure to find out what it is that makes a chord the particular chord that it is.

im learning chords also now
but my fingertips are hurting like mad
any tips to reduce that
or do i ahve to endure that at first?
nah you just have to endure that at the beginning :p but once you play for a while, your finger tips will delvelop hard skin. its a lot better then :D :D
