need help w/ my band

ok, my band has 2 drummers, a screamer, a bassist, and 3 guitarists (including me :D) well, we really have trouble getting some heavy metal sounds. we cant get ne, no matter how hard we try, so if ne1 would post sum examples. like if u could post part of a tab so i can get the feel of it....also if u can give our band some tips i appreciate it!! :cool:

lose one drummer, and lose one guitarist..

rhythm guitarist will be in Drop D or Db, and will play some barred power chords utilizing palm muting alot, for example:

D|--0--0--6--5--0--0--0--0--3--2--5--6---------
A|--0--0--6--5--0--0--0--0--3--2--5--6---------
D|--0--0--6--5--0--0--0--0--3--2--5--6---------
Palm mute-------|---------|

while lead player plays one and two string riffs, so using the same key, he might play something like:

D|------3-2-3-6-------------3--
A|--0-0---------6-5-5-3-2-6----

or something like that..

bass player will just be playing along in key, and drummer will be playing with the bass drum alot.. perhaps even double bass if that's the kind of sound you're going for.

I really don't know what else to tell you, you just gotta experiment around.. but I've never heard of a successful band that had two drummers except for slipknot, but as far as I know, the two drummers don't play at the same time. so seriously, you don't want two drummers, and though it would be possible to have three guitarists, it isn't exactly easy to coordinate things between the three, it's better with one or two.

I'd suggest listening to Iron Maiden more. They made a lot of trademark metal moves famous, like the age ol' two 16th note and one 8th note riff pattern, commonly referred to as the "chug" riff. That and excessive tremeloing.

I'm with 6strngs. You're being redundant with the additional drummer and most likely with the extra guitarist as well. You don't need another guitarist playing power chords to get a louder and heavier sound if that's what you want. With that many of the same instruments you run a risk of getting a cluttered mass of noise.

and your settings also.... try putting your bass and treble knobs all the way on 10 and cut out your mids entirely. also try going with only your neck pup.

you'll get a darker sound that way.

heyyyy old bands man... my doobie brothers have two drummers. i could go on and on about old bands with two drummers.

but instead of two bass drums, just get two bass pedals. thats what our drummer does when we play any metalish stuff.

that's what I meant, was a double bass pedal.. not two bass drums..

also, "scooped mids" as it's called when you turn the bass and treble up and the mids way down, is a great way to get a nu-metal sound... so if you want to sound like godsmack and korn, then that may be the way to go for you.. but if you want a tone more like real metal bands, then I'd not cut the mids..

see i agree, but for a band who cant get their tone at all... i'd go with the steriotypical sound at first then go to the real tone.
