View Full Version : is it normal for your wrist to hurt while standing?
When im standing and playing, i find it extreamly hard to form bar chords because of the strain on my wrist. My question is, how do i get rid of the strain and if this is normal or not.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!

How low is your guitar? If your guitar is slung down really low when you're stood up, then it'll put extra strain on your hand and it will hurt.
Try bringing your guitar up higher. Remember, it isn't about how mean you look with a low slung guitar, it's about how you play the thing.

How high should your guitar be then??

Experiment. Try to find a compromise between what's comfortable and what puts less strain on your hand. I have mine so the body of the guitar rests just under my ribs, although it does depend on your build and type of guitar, and your way of playing guitar overall.

I like to angle the guitar neck slightly upwards, it makes things a lot easier for my fretting hand.

Iv tried that but it only helps a bit, the wrist still hurts

I have carpal tunnel syndrome, so playing guitar used to hurt alot for long play times, but the trick to getting that pain to subside is just do a nice warm up. Nothing to strenuous at first. I have been building up to an hour work out. The trick is just to start REALLY slow and then it'll make the pain more bearable/almost completely gone.
Now, I am to the point where it only hurts when I don't play guitar.
