I know that I haven't stopped into the forum for awhile now, but I have some news that I felt like sharing with all of my ol' pals on GT.

I made the All-State jazz band in Massachusetts! For those of you that don't know, the all-state jazz band (they also have an orchestra, symphonic band and choir) auditions high school kids from the entire state, and accepts the top kids for each category (ex. two alto saxophones, two tenor saxophones, 5 trumpets). For guitar, there is only one spot, and I made it! We are playing at Symphony Hall in Boston on March 18th.

I decided to post this to all of you because I know that most of you have always given me encouragement. Thank you!

my school doesnt even let guitars try out for jazz band.

WHICH IS WHY OUR JAZZ BAND IS HORRIBLE. :p

Our school jazz band is awful. The drummer has no time, the bassist is nasty but he's a funk player, not a jazzer, our trumpets can't hit half the notes, the trombones are mediocore.... But our sax section is fantastic!

I just hope I don't let this whole allstate thing go to my head, 'cuz I'll most likely come back to play with the school jazz band and not even be able to deal with it...

I know a high schoolkid from another town who actually runs his own big band. It's completely separate from the school, and everything like that. I wish I had me my own jazz band....

what did you have to do at the audition? did you play a piece of your choice?
