I forget his name right at this moment, but I read in the Guitar World special edition (the top 100 guitarists of all time) that the reason that the Doors didn't need a bassist is because the guitarist had flamenco experience, and could play the bass parts and the lead/rhythm parts at the same time on a regular guitar.

I'm not too sure if I fathom this. When I listen to Doors songs, I hear a definite bass part, and it sounds impossible at some points for one person to be playing both parts at the same time.

Does anyone know anything about this?

The guitarist, Robby Krieger probably played bass parts on a bass or they had a session bassist and probably they had a session bassist for live shows

Actually, Ray Manzarek played the bass parts on a Rhodes keyboard bass. I have a few old Doors LPs, so I pulled them to see how the bass was credited. On the first Doors album, Manzarek is credited with organ, piano and bass. He is also credited with organ and bass on "Absolutely Live", but is credited only with keyboard on "Soft Parade". Harvey Brooks and Doug Lubahn are credited with bass on "Soft Parade".
