Nirvana....Their raw emotion and angst portrayed by Kurt's voice is what got me hooked on them at first. I still think that Kurt had a voice that won't be matched anytime soon.

drum roll please
in reverse order the results are...
5. The Smiths - Why oh why did the best rhythm player to come out of england have to be around in the 80s? is it too much to ask that he was around in the 60s when the words guitar pop meant something? considering what marr did when the guitar was unfashonable, the mind boggles at what the band counld have done if they were around 20 years earlyer
4. Queen - Brian may is the reason i picked up the guitar in the first place. i heard their live at wembly 86 when i was 6 and have been hooked ever since. may simply has the best sound, live at least, ever!
3. Led Zepplin - To be fair i only have led zep II and IV. the fact they are so high in my list is testomony to how brillient these two albums are.
2. Hendrix - When i am sat watching him, i am still convinced this guy was not real. his playing is so expresive and powerful, he adds more feeling in every note than beethoven did in a lifetime. combined with a songwriting ability that is simply scarey, hendrix is at number two, tiped at the post by...
1. Radiohead - Despite being loathed on this site, and basicly by all the world, in my opinion these guys are the best guitar based band around at the moment and , if i'm feeling adventureus, ever. They travel from triple guitar onslaught to mellow mood music in the blink of an eye. they also are the first band to succesfuly incorperate dance and electronica elements in rock music, while still keeping their blues background eg. i might be wrong. every one on this site seems to hate them but i was willing to give them a chance, an now i am reaping the rewards

Helloween
Stevie Ray Vaughan

Jesse Cook

Manowar
Savatage
Iron Maiden
1.Incubus
2.Puddle of Mudd
3.Stone Temple Pilots
4.Metallica
5.AC/DC
6.Pink Floyd

I agree earwig, DMB are very good...
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers
2. Smashing Pumpkins
3. Foo Fighters
4. Jimmy Eat World
5. Dave Mathews Band
6. Rage Against the Machine
7. Radiohead
8. Propellerheads
9. Jeff Buckley
10. D.I.G
11. Living End
12. Ataris
(Sorry I couldn't leave them out!)
One person that was left out was Jaco Pastorius, was a genius and was excluded because I don't think anyone really wants to hear about a bass player...sad really.
I also think that John Frusciante is way underated, despite his drug problems, he is a genius, extremely versatile and adds greatly to funk of the Chili Peppers...

Yeah I know Uzeb.
Wow man, that takes me back.
They were really good, I remember I always wanted a Guitar like their guitarist (Forgot his name, Cusson or something like that). He played with a Godin. Tried on of their Acoustic-electric once, rich beautiful sound.
Thanks for the memories.

Okay, people. Please, just hear me out on this one. No one has chosen this band as #1, and it's an opinion, so I support you all. But I seriously think we should all reconsider our thoughts. I pick this band because of all the ingredients required for a big, bestest band: Musical ability(probably the most important), creativity(something that is actually overlooked), originality(but of course), and one that no one really thinks about...ENTERTAINMENT! The band has to ENTERTAIN(whether in concert or on CD/tape/mp3/etc.
And so I choose: METALLICA!!!!
I don't care what anyone says. They have everything it takes to be the best.
TimE.

My favorite bands have a big meaning behind them. I will list them in order of influence to me. Now, when I was 10 years old, I hated music. I don't mean I disliked it, or nothing fit me, or I didn't like certain genres of music. I HATED ALL MUSIC!!! Every little note of every little song made me SICK. Until, I heard the Eagles. I don't know why, but I enjoyed them. After awhile, I was obsessed with the Eagles and then started venturing off into other rock bands. Here is a chronological order of bands that I still love to this day(all of which has helped inspire me to become as great of a guitarist as I see fit):
1. Eagles
2. Tom Petty
3. Van Halen
4. Guns & Roses
5. Eric Clapton
6. MEAT-ALLICA!!!! (metallica)
7. Pantera
...and since then, I have opened my world to a lot of good bands. One thing that people think is that if a band is really famous, like Metallica, that they are sell-outs. That the bands don't care about music and such, and hell, the band isn't even that talented. It's their record companies and manager who makes them look so good. Well, you have to remember how they got there. THEY HAD TO ENTERTAIN PEOPLE!!! They found a way to attract a large crowd and make them all overwhelmed in emotions and sound. That is what makes a band popular. Spank you,

12-29-2001, 10:13 AM
eh...what can i say? i must be a weird person then right? :) well im just a person that enjoys different flavors of rock..and theres nothing wrong with that.

i think most of their lirics suck. the first album i got was OK computer because i had heard so much about paranoid android and decided to check it out. i was compleatly blow away by them and now have horded all but 1 of their 6 albums (i don't have Kid A). i just love the way they have mastered loads of different styles and have managed to bring dance elements into their music without loosing their rock status. their live album demonstrates this brillintly. in my songs i have been trying to give the audience the urge to get up and dance. this can be done by simple things like ajusting the tempo, adding pounding drum beats and adding repeating, stacato bass lines. radiohead do this brillintly
NINvanefreak
12-29-2001, 12:30 PM
yeah i agree with u on that nin do almost the same thing by mixing up industrial with alternative and with those pounding drums in the background of a song..it just rocks all the way.
Barreta_jetstream1
12-30-2001, 12:09 PM
to be honest i havn't heard a single nin song! i didn't know they were into that sort of stuff. any sujestions for a skint first time listener?
NINvanefreak
12-30-2001, 12:19 PM
well i suggest u try hearing one of their older songs..like "head like a hole" which is in the "pretty hate machine" cd...i suggest u get that cd first and if u like it then u can get one of their more newer cds hmm..i suggest maybe downward spiral or the fragile..try and get both and see if u like it..im sure u will.
Barreta_jetstream1
12-30-2001, 12:33 PM
right. thanks. have u heard radioheads live album? it is a perfect example of what i was talking about. the way they capture the feeling at a rave in a rock concert is something i aspire to. T.N.A. and i might be wrong work realy well in this set up
NINvanefreak

i downloaded a song from that album..i think..they played "paranoid android" and it sounded AWESOME

that isn't off the album that is their best song (hence the signeture) but its not on their new album. all the songs are off Kid A and Amnesiac with one original track. the song list is: -
T.N.A.
I Might be Wrong
Mornin' Bell
Like Spinin' Plates
Idioteque
Everything in its Right Place
Dollars and Cents
True Love Waits
The first 2 r the best by far. actualy idioteque works brilliently too. true love waits isn't live but they put cheering on the end to try and fool people. i have a live version of it and they should have put one on as it sounds much better live.

that song is a bit weird. a few of my mates have seen the video on mtv but as i don't have it, i havn't. i don't know if the video is actuly for the single or just a promo. i don't think it has been released here in england but i don't know about the states. they did the same with idioteque, released a video to promote the album, but didn't release the single itself. any ideas?
