Pickup cut out?

ive checked the search but couldnt find any info. the Rhythm pickup on my les paul doesnt turn on 25% of the time. The sound just goes dead. I think its something to do with the switch...but could be the pickups. Any help in remedying this would be great, thanks!

Open it up and check ALL the wiring if everything looks legit time to either get a new pup or have the old one looked at.

i had that problem with the crummy factory selector on my Gretsch; replaced it, never another issue again. of course the LP is wired differently, with the separate tone/volume controls...

Well its a crappy epi les paul. The pickups are seymour duncon alnico 2 pro's (slash) and they where expensive...so i m thinking its the switch. But its so congested in there, i guess ill look up how to remove the switch...

It's very rare for a pickup to have a broken wire in it, but selector switches often fail.

take the switch out and blow it. trust me :D

Switches go bad a little too easy. They are moody little fellas. I bet it's your switch.

The results are in...it was my switch. I wish i tried blowing on it before i bought a new one :) . Thanks for the help guys.

I've had the same problem with my Agile Les Paul. My treble pickup won't sound unless I hit the string really hard, then it sounds more like the bridge pickup is actually picking up the vibrations. Any suggestions for running continuity test? And by blowing out the switch, do you guys mean just blasting air over it? I can try that, but it seems like the pickup may be dead. I tried running continuity tests from the pots to the switch and all seems fine. I haven't tried from the switch to the pickups though.

Yeah, just blow air over it, into it, all around it. That fixes the problem most of the time, somehow. If that doesn't work I would replace the switch. The chances of it being you pickup are pretty slim.

I tried blowing out the switch and this seems to be a two part problem. I checked for continuity and everything is connected. However, the one volume pot controls both pickups. If I turn it down both pickups will become silent. If I turn it up and turn the other volume pot down neither pickup is really affected, the tone just becomes different. Is this normal wiring for Les Pauls?
