hello everyone!!!

I want to know what would you think is best for Progressive Metal like solos (Dream Theater, Symphony X stuff) referring to pedals, an overdrive or a distortion one, and also which brabd will you choose, line 6 or boss

thanxs all of you guitar fans!!!! :D

I'd go with a Boss distortion pedal to get that type of lead tone. Distortion is more defined while overdrive is more "loose" or " grainy".

Also, a key to that type of lead tone is a compression pedal....smooths it all out.

I'd go with a Boss distortion pedal to get that type of lead tone.

Yeah, the Boss Metal Zone pedal with the treble turned up is perfect for prog-metal leads.

Try combining a distortion and an overdrive pedal, if you tinker around with them you can get that grail tone where the distortion is just about to spill over to feedback (sounds great for lead work). I've heard Petrucci use a similar tone but then again he plays through two super freezer sized racks of gear;-) Best stomp box/floor pedal I got was the Line6 DM4, its got everything from Hendrix to Yngwie to Metallica and beyond. All the major pedals combined in one, check it out!

what i do to get that sound is turn the distortion way up on my amp, and then put an overdrive pedal in front of that to warm and smooth everything out.

ive been thinking about buying the Line 6 Uber Metal (http://www.activemusician.com/store/product.asp?sku=EM.99-040-1401&sn=10&c=B258250B8A074C82867277913ADB0B9F&s=3&nav=sd-ii) , tho. which would be a sweet little box.
