Hey guys, just thought i would introduce myself. My name is Gareth, i'm a student and have been threatening to start guitar for years but have never got round to it. I'm on my xmas break at the moment so thought there is no better time to start really.
Any advice is greatly appreciated and i looking forward to being an active member.

It takes time, patience and dedication... oh, and a lot of reading. Past that it's just playing. So time, patience, dedication, reading, and playing. Of course watching others play helps as well... and listening to more music. So that means that it just takes time, patience, dedication, reading, playing, watching, and listening. Past that there's nothing to it.
Oh, and welcome aboard.

definatly sticking with it. putting the guitar down for weeks or months at a time doesnt get you anywhere.
if your easilly distracted, and give up easilly, i would get a teacher.
oh, and i nearly forgot-

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I've just checked through some of the previous threads and i think i will opt for some lessons to begin with; then i can progress on my own.
Just want to make sure that i am not picking up any bad habits.
