View Full Version : If not scales then what?

I can fly through scales that are like the box type but I cant go up and down the neck good. I have trouble with this type of thing:

_______________________________________18___19
____________________________15____17
_________________11____14
___________7__9
___5__7

I made this up as an example just to illistrate my point.

What kind of exercises can I do to get better at this type of thing?

Keep practicing that. You'll eventually get better and better at it. Its best, I hear, to use a metronome. You can also try the 1234 exercise.

Then go down in scale.

I know it soundslike alot of work. But trust me, if you learn all the notes on the guitar, your life will be better. So learn the notes in the scale you are playing (that is the point to learning scales) and you'll be able to move them all over the fretboard.
