Since I have been trolling around all of the various guitar sites I keep noticing these "play guitar in 30 min." websites. Or the "guitar secrets reveled" guides that I can buy. They all pretty much say the same thing; "why spend countless hours learning music theory that you will never need when you can be playing songs in 30 minutes?"

I assume that these are crap-o-la scams. What are these “secrets” that I should be paying $59.95 for?

Major scam.
You can get that and tons more for just $5 by signing up here.
Hell... you can get most of it for free just by looking at the beginners section.

You will always need music theory.

**** like that is personally insulting to any guitarist that wants to be treated like an actual musician, not just the laughing stock of the band class or something.

Howdy!
Old man Northwind believes that the learning of scales, how they repeat themselves, and the head knowledge to acquire them is but a piece of root from the great tree entailed in playing guitar well.Head knowledge is a good start, but cultivating and nurturing hands on experience and toil bring the best rewards.

They aren't totally lying...you could learn to sloppily play the most basic of tunes in 30 mins, but I doubt anyone would want to listen to it (yourself included). They would reveal one important lesson though (and secret perhaps)...that there aren't shortcuts through practice and real learning and there's always a sucker...ok, that's 2 lessons, but yeah. :)

They give you a link to a download that opens this program that tries to help you remember what notes are on what fret. Thats all it is. I think I still have the link to it too, I signed up then got my money back cause it was so stupid. And the guy sent me a tab cd that sucked balls :D

Here's how those guys work.

You want to know how to play guitar in 30 minutes?

Here's a D:

Here's an F:

Play those. You have exactly 30 minutes.

Did it? You're playing guitar! So don't ask for your money back.
