Tell him to try something like.
--3-4-------------------------------
-------4-5--------------------------
-------------4-5--------------------
------------------5-6---------------
-----------------------6-7----------
-----------------------------7-8----
I always thought that sounded Middle Eastern. I don't know if it's an actual scale. Equator or Jolly might be in to let us know. Throw in some quarter bends here and there.

I can't recommend any scales, but I can recommend that your friend check out System of a Down.
They're Armenian and you can hear some of that in their music.

The actual scale is a:
Six Tone Symetrical Scale= [1-b2-3-4-#5-6]
with the Tonic on B...........[B-C-D#-E-G-G#]
And the chord built on the first note of that scale would be:
B aug5th Triad= (B,D#,G)
...B aug 5th
e----3----------------------------------------
B----4-------------------------------------0--
G----4----------------------------0---1-------
D-------------------------1---2---------------
A-----------------2---3-----------------------
E---------------------------------------------

Magicninja seems to be playing the fifth mode of that scale, descending in intervals of 2nd; and finally resolving to C.
Fifth Mode=[G-G#-B-C-D#-E]
the triad built on the first note of this mode would be:
G aug5th Triad=(G,B,D#)
....G aug 5th
e----------------3--4---------------------------------
B-----4----------------4--5----------------------------
G-----4----------------------4--5----------------------
D-----5----------------------------5--6-----------------
A-----------------------------------------6--7---------
E------------------------------------------------7--8--

If you are looking for a Persian sound, that scale would be...Persian Scale...no surprise there.
I`m gonna put that scale in the key of B, for comparison sake.
Persian Scale=[1-b2-3-4-b5-b6-7]
...................[B-C-D#-E-F-G-A#]
and the chord built on the Tonic:
B b5=(B,D#,F)
........B b5
e---------------------------------------------------------
B------4--------------------------------------0--------------
G------4-----------------------------0---3--------------------
D------3----------------1---2---3--------------------------------
A------2--------2---3--------------------------------------------
E--------------------------------------------------------------

Actually, that would make him iranian-armenian, persians are an ethnic group in iran, they're about 50% of the population, but i see what you mean now ;)

There are a lot of Armenian-Persians. Armenians were traders, and they ended up all over the Middle East; it's kind of like how I'd be considered "Swedish-American" even though I was born in the US... lots of Armenians live in Iran and somehow have married Persians, thus creating Persian-Armenians. If Armenian is 3/4 Armenian and 1/4 Persian then it's pretty much his perogative what he wants to call himself... Armenian American is a lot more easy to wield than Armenian-Persian-American.
In any case. Freak Guitar (http://home.swipnet.se/freakguitar/scales.html) has some pretty awesome scales. No Persian but they have other middle eastern scales.

he said his dad was armenian born in iran, not persian, so he's 0% persian, that was my point. it's an ethnicity, not a nationality.
