I have the best luck just grabbing a pad and a pencil and writing down anything that pops into my head. Listen to some music that has the same feel as what you envision your song like and see what happens. It's like a free association thing. Eventually you can put some of it together, add a few things and hopefully a song will emerge.
One of the best examples I have recently seen of this is on the “Some Kind Of Monster” Metallica DVD. The band was all sitting around with pen in hand jotting down lyric and music ideas. Some worked, some did not but when they put it all together a song was born.

Scales can become melodys when u change up the pattern, ie 2 steps forward 1 back etc, and see what ever strikes you as a novel run.

Writing lyrics is kinda like learning guitar. You have to write them a whole bunch before you get good at it. Just start working on stuff and trying to improve on it. Go back to old stuff later and see if you can make it better.
Maybe read a couple of books on songrwriting so you get an idea how successful writers do it.

i might read, get my brain activated, then mabey put a beautifull song on for me my brain will conjure stuff like crazy, mabey i am, but think of a melodey when your writing a proggression, that works even though the song usually comes out diff. by the time its fineshed but every song needs a beginning
