yeah, I remember skating back in the day when I was 13... can you do a frontside flip? I remember that being the trick I was working on about the time that I quit, I think I only ever did 1 or 2...

welcome to GT btw... playing guitar is more fun then skating in my opinion..

I'd agree with that statement, you don't get hurt every day atleast!

I skated for a year before I took up guitar, before I quit I had just mastered varial heelflips; hard as nails. Oh, and i'd finally ollied this big 8 step in my town.

I remember landing a backside flip once, but I found frontside really hard.

I also landed a double kickflip a few times!

I used to skate vert(pipes)

Jumping the skatepark fence on a pitch black rainy night while stoned...I tried dropping in on the 13 footer...I just hit the bottom.I couldn't see anything.

yeah, I think the biggest I ollied was a 6. I had backside flips down, but frontside were just hard for me. I almost had 360 flips around the time that I quit too. I could do noseslides down this one ledge at my skatepark too. I've kickflipped down 2 or 3 steps (can't remember). I distinctly remember landing a nosegrind once... I had never tried one before, but I had been doing 5-0's all day, so I decided to try it... and I did it! it was insane! I was never able to land another one after that one time though. but I think the most fun thing for me on a skateboard was to just bomb a hill! which is actually why I quit... I was going extremely fast down this steep hill (which doesn't look steep from the top!) the speed limit on the road was 30 mph, and I was keeping up with the cars!!! well, I couldn't stop! there was no physical way of brakeing that I wouldn't fall with... so I kept going! and started wobbling all over the place when... storm drain... there was no avoiding it, I had no control... I did some wierd matrix thing... I went straight towards the ground, but turned myself, so I started rolling... and rolled for a good 1/4 of the hill (the hill is like 1/2 a mile long!) when I was done rolling... I stood up, noticed I had three bad spots, on my left leg on my calf, on my left elbow, and my right hand.

I went to the hospital after that because my wounds were deep (there was some liquid coming out that wasn't blood...) after sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours, I finally went in... they said that the liquid is basically the same liquid that a blister fills with... so they bandanged me up, I limped out, and limped for several days, and had a fat scab on my leg the size of a softball... there is still a big scar there today, though the scar isn't as big as the wound was...

and that's when I decided to quit...

Used to fly down those steep underpass hills(where cars run under the highway).I'm surprised none of us got killed.

LOL,making crappy ramps that break and send you flying as soon as you hit them. Those were fun times.Board sliding a tall curb well an 18 wheeler is backing up and crap.

seriously, i think the skater lifestyle was more fun then actually skating. breaking into places, getting kicked out, always on the constant search for the perfect skate spot, and my personal favorite, going fast down a busy street weaving in and out of people and cars...

I was actually making fun of 6strings_2hmbkrs. Don't worry, dude, no offense met. Guitartricks is actually a very accepting place, and nothing I say should be taken seriously. Unless I'm right. In which case take it seriously.

now I'm going to make fun of you for not spelling my username right! no vowels!!!

skater punks aren't that bad when you fit in with them... I still dress like them, but that's only cause I haven't bought new clothes since I was one like 2 years ago... but with skating, it's like anywhere I went I could make new friends. plus they get chicks like crazy... or at least they did back when I was skating... most skaters are nice to other skaters and say F you to anyone else, which is probably why you hate them... that and their music isn't the best... I know that's really why you don't like them... you... you elitist you...

My ollie was mega high!

I quit due to the financial and emotional circumstances of my mum and me at the time.

And then I started playing guitar which has cost me and my mum more than skating ever would have!

so true... but with skating, you had to get a new $50 deck every 2-3 months, some new $30 wheels every 6 months, some new $40 trucks every year, and some new $20-45 bearings every 6 months (or at least I did... I skated hard!)

with guitar, it's more of a one time fee for the guitar and amp, until you need new strings every month or two... then when you want to upgrade...

then again, I've put more money into my guitar then I have on any other hobby I've ever had... so, yeah I guess it is more expensive... oh well

I sucked at high ollies, the most I ever did was 3 boards interlocked primo-style. and that was a one time thing, my average would only barely clear two boards.

I could clear 3 most times, but 4 decks was 1 inch too far for me.

I was replacing decks every month, and shoes every month.

I miss it a bit, it was fun, not for the "wow i'm super cool i skate and i get all the chicks" mentality thing, but the skating itself. Spending time with buddies skating and cheering each other on when we were trying something new, it was great, it was fun.

Except when it rained half way through the day. :p

But them days are over... *guitar solo*

I would argue with you... but everyone else I've seen argue with you has been banned...

and actually, I don't mind "Nate" all that much. but usually it's older people who call me that... my friends call me nathan... or mellow mellow marshmellow... but that's a different story. lol
