Its probably the most famous overdrive pedal of all time. When i say overdrive i mean a most natural clipping as others can argue a few fuzz boxes that would be the most famous pedals of all time.
Anyways its pretty darn good pedal but there are many clones out there that have expanded and even improved on the ts 808 ...mostly cleaning up the low end making the bass tighter.

I have a Robert Keeley modded ts-9/ts-808 tubescreamer. That is the best pedal I have ever played, robert keeley pedals are sooooo much better than stock!
He modifies pedals for players like Steve vai, john mayer just to name a couple. It has so much clarity and tone! No mud what so ever! Really great tube like qualities too! Tubescreamers are the holy grail for blues players, they are THE blues pedal to have, thats why SRV used one.

There are a few different models of Tubescreamers. The best I find is the TS-9? I beleive thats the one. Right now I have the TS7 which in all honesty sounds pretty damn decent for 80$ new. When I can I'm gonna upgrade, but for now it does everything I need it to.

I have a modded Boss SD-1. The mods are supposed to bring it to the level of the Ts-808 with the same op amp as the 808, tantalium caps, ect.
It has completely change the sound of this pedal-for the good! The bass end has been cleaned up, the volume has increased overall. The sound has opened up and is unmuffled. I have 40.00 in the pedal, pawn shop deal, and I am VERY satisfied.
Now while I cannot comment on the TS, YMMV! ;)
