Hey all, does anyone have any opinion on what's the best reverb pedal out there? I heard EHX Holy Grails are pretty friggin good, but I want some more suggestions so I have a lot to choose from. Anyone?

I would personally reccomend the EHX Holiest Grail for fine reverb world-wide

A while ago I was looking at Reverb pedals and I looked at the Holy Grail, the BOSS one, and another one. They all suck. The reverb they give off does not feel real. They are thin sounding and I would not recommend buying a reverb pedal. Instead get a tube amp with built in reverb.

I would, but how would i then switch from reverb to no-verb?

I have to say, while the tube amp would probably give you better reverb, it isn't exactly a comparatively priced alternative. So until you get that anyway, the Holy Grail (or one of it's siblings) is probably the way to go.

There are some amps that have switchable reverb on/off. I know there are a bunch of Fenders out there that have it. And there are probably some Marshall and Line 6's that have it as well. And most likely alot more out there that do. You have to search around.

my JC120 has KILLER reverb and you can switch it off.

the tubes usually don't have much to do with the reverb itself... they lend "that tube sound" to it but the reverb is added either via springs in a box ("spring reverb" or "reverb tank") that when jostled, by either outside vibration or by the output of the speakers, adds a kind of "springy" sound or by a digital circuit.

I haven't ever played a reverb pedal I liked, probably because I prefer, far and beyond, spring reverb to electronic... I like the fact that when you jam down on a chord hard, it's a more powerful response. Also if you kick the amp a bit or jump down by it, you get this cool reverb splat. Danelectro makes a pedal that uses springs, but it's really weak, and because it's a pedal the springs get jostled too easily.
