Hey I'm trying to do some recording and was wondering what would be some good software to record and edit in? thanx in advance.

I would start off with either Cubasis or ProTools M-Powered. The reason I would say jumping in at a reasonably high entry level would be the learning curve and the fact that IF you get serious about recording, you will find the transition to the pro versions of the above softwares much easier (both of which you will find in most recording studios).

Are you using a Mac or a PC ?

Garage band is free with newer macs.

There's ProTools, Cubase, Logic, Adobe Audition, Sonar, Nuendo, Ableton Live,...

Plenty to choose from.

I'm using Sonar and love it.

But like Superhuman mentioned before, Pro Tools is the industry standard that most recording studios use.
