gday ive just resigned up after forgetting my original password...
it would be really good if someone could help me out here, i know the majority of solos are just shredding thru scales, at least thats my understanding. i need to know som hints on playing solos off of tab and even just improvising them.
some examples would be good and if anyone could tell me some scales that are used in some songs so i can put 2 n 2 together and click on it...
that would be a big help.

Gday... you from Australia?
The majority of solos aren't shredding though scales. A lot of metal solos involve shredding through scales, but there's a whole lot more to soloing than shredding.
If you're playing a solo from tab, it's a good idea to learn it through really slowly so that you can play every note perfectly, then play it along with a metronome at a low tempo. When it sounds good, then bump the metronome up a few bpm and perfect it at that speed. Keep doing this until you reach the desired tempo.
Some good scales to start off with are the minor pentatonic scale, the natural major scale and natural minor. It's a good idea to learn the scales up and down each string aswell as each box shape, instead of being confined to the scale boxes. This helps you to have a better idea of the scale.]
Learning other people's solos helps a lot with improvising your own. Everything you play gets ingrained into your style to some extent. Learn everything you can.
improvising at super fast speed is only for guitar gods but for the mortals like us there are some things we can do to sound like that:
take a scale (like major) and learn:
Secuences
acending 1234,2345,3456, etc
decending 7654,6543,5432, etc
3 notes per beat 123,234,345,345, etc
5 notes perbeat 12324,23435,34546 etc
lots of combinations
intervals of 3rds and 6ths(sound cool) also decending
13,24,35,46, etc
16,27,38,49, etc
arpegios
135,642,357,864, etc
theres alot arpegios some of them use the 6 strings using sweep picking others use only 2. They can make you sound like the most evil shreder or the most well versed cat in jazz depending on your tone and the scales your using
1(2) note pivote licks
3 notes per string licks
and the old godies blues licks.......
