EMG pickups...are pretty well known in the rock/metal scene, i know Zakk Wylde uses them a lot, and know they are Active (means they are powered by a 9v battery) but...google will tell you more and so will EMG's home page, sorry im not much help :o

actually, they are EMG hz's, which I think are EMG's passive pickups... from what I've heard, EMG doesn't make very good passive pickups. it would probably be better to get some EMG actives in there, if that's what you like (high output, hard rock/metal type of thing) or some duncans or dimarzios in it if you need something a little more mellow and/or versatile. though duncan and dimarzio also make pickups that can be pretty high output too.

other then that, I have never played a jackson, but I hear floyd rose bridges are a pain to restring. but I think I read on that link that it was available in a string-thru.

other then that... sexy guitar dude

nice guitar.

-string through has better tone, but with the obvious loss of a tremolo. i personally prefer string through, since i don't play with the trem too much.
-active EMG's are good for metal, not much else. Passive EMG's are IMHO not very good sounding. there are better passive metal pickups out there.

it's a sweet guitar though, and will sound just fine.

I own a Jackson DKMG, double locking trem. I hated the EMG HZ pickups and the 20 decible boost knob. The HZ series is passive and the only reason there is a 9 volt battery in that guitar is for the decible boost. I replaced my HZ pickups with the EMG 81\85 set, which is the set that ZAKK plays. People will tell you that these pickups are for metal only and that's a bunch of BS. I rewired my guitar so I have two volume knobs and one tone knob and I really like it now. Action is low and the neck is slim. I like the width of the fretboard 'cause I have large hands. I bought my jackson off ebay for 450 bucks and it's in great shape. If you've never had a guitar with a double locking Floyd Rose then it may take a little getting adjusted to. It takes longer to restring it and tune it. But they are nice.
