Just bought this amp today and it seems to be in great condition. It has the original tubes and speakers which seem to work extremely well. Reverb also works great. Does anyone have any info on this amp? I emailed peavey but they said they have nothing for it. All i know is its an early 1970's Peavey Vintage with 6 8" Speakers.
I got it because with new tubes and 6 new speakers... this thing will kill.

You say it works "extremely well", and yet you want to replace the tubes and speakers??? Why?
People who spend a lot of time and money in their pursuit of great tone often prefer older gear over new-production items. Spend some time getting to know this rig. If it ain't broken, there's no need to 'fix' it.
Enjoy it as-is until you find out more about it from people who have this model, not peeps who heard something somwhere that might apply to it.

you do have a point there... I said they worked extremely well because for a 30 year old amp im surprised that all the stock parts are still functioning and havn't needed replacing. I still think changing the speakers out for some celestions could help. It looks like the 6l6 GC's that are in now are fine. Does age have any effect on tubes?

Tubes only 'age' when the're being used. The power supply filter caps may be close to failure, but if there's no pop, crackle, or excessive hum, don't worry about it. And those speakers look like they have Alnico magnets, which are primo units in a lot of people's opinion. Why do you think Celestions are going to be any better? Close your eyes and play. If it sounds good, just kick back and enjoy!
I think you've got what may be a real tone-monster, and it puzzles me (I'm trying to be polite here) that you're prepared to rip it apart before you even know what you have! Peavey used to make some very good amps. I'm not familiar with that particular model, but it looks to me like it may be a winner, just the way it is. Like I said, if it ain't broken, don't try to 'fix' it.

Thanks for the great advice. I played it earlier and didn't have much time to tweak it but it seemed to lack some low end. Tomorrow i'll just have a little one on one with the amp and my gt-8 and try to squeeze the tone out of it.

Plug your guitar straight into the amp, crank the volume, and let it sing!

thats what i've been hearing. The guy i bought it from said it had 6 8" speakers but it actually has 6 10" ones.

It's just wrong to use a GT-8 (or anything similar) with a rockin' amp like that. If you can't make the amp sound good plugging straight in, you need to go do some woodsheddin'.

I've played the 2x12 versions of that amp, and they sounded really, really cool... I'd leave it be... the ones I played were at this store in Cambridge, MA, and were each $350-450 depending on the exterior condition.
Honestly if you play it through the GT you won't hear too much of the amp's actual tone; try it just with your guitar, just with the gain and reverb on the amp... it should sound pretty nice, and still be plenty loud.

You must have overlooked the " " at the end of his post. This usually implies that one is joking, or saying something in a humorous/light hearted way. ;) (<------also implying the same thing)
