I'm talking about rock or metal. 9 out of 10 country songs are written by someone other than the performer, etc.....

I'm bringing this up b/c I just found out that the singer that was in my first band 12 or 13 years ago is now writing songs for Saliva. I never have been a fan of Saliva, but I lost a lot of respect for them when I found out they don't write their own songs....Not bashing my old buddy, I think it's cool he's working with a popular band.

Any other well known bands out there that doesn't write their own songs?

I heard the Beach Boys didn't write most of their songs. Also heard that on the albums, the instruments were being played by a different band. Can't remember the name at the moment.

Yea alot of bands, actually mostly singers, dont write their own songs. Its viewed somewhat as a taboo these days if you dont write the music your perform, but that doesnt mean the band has no talent.

Elvis wrote very little of his songs and look at him.

I think Elvis only helped co-write "always on my mind" and thats about it.

I thought Brian Wilson wrote all the Beach Boy songs?

In the 60's in England, Jimmy Page played on song Stones records among other things. This was before he formed Led Zeppelin of course.
