Marshall Tucker, Toy Caldwell

Does anyone know how Toy Caldwell of the Martshall Tucker band played his unique sound. Articles Iv'e read have said something about playing with his thumb? Not sure! Was his style " chicken pickin' " and if so, does anyone know what chicken pickin' is? thanks johnnygem, Atlanta GA

His "chickin pickin'" was picking with his thumb. I dont know how he gets that unique sound out of the amp but that is what chicken pickin was.
