A question about a George Lynch solo

Yeah, I know, Dokken was pretty cheesy, at least in the lyrics and clothing department. Anyway, I'm trying to learn the solo from the song In My Dreams. There is a part where he does these hammer ons and pull offs that either require extremely long fingers or fingers like Gumby.

I don't think there is much use in trying to get my fingers to stretch furter so I'm trying to do it with tapping. What I've been doing is putting a finger from my pick hand down on the 12th fret and doing the hammer on/pull offs with my left hand's pinkie and index finger. I'm trying to get it up to speed, but dang do I have a long way to go. Is it just a matter of really learning how to limit how far my fingers come off the board after each one pulls off? Or is there basically no way to get it as fast as he does using this method?

Probably a better idea to put a finger from your fretting hand on the 12th fret and hammer on and off with the middle finger on your pick hand and one of the other fingers on your fretting hand. That's how I'd do it anyway. Just gotta get the movements as small as possible to increase the speed.

I haven't seen the tabs for this song so I'm not sure that I know what you're talking about

Oh duh, not sure why I didn't think of that. Yeah, I'll be able to get it up to speed doing that. I was going back and forth puling off with the index and then pinky fingers with my left hand like I was making the satan sign and it just wasn't cutting the trick.

The way he plays it is insane. He has index on the 12th, taps with his middle finger on the 15th, then taps with his pinkie on the 19th and then even on the 20th :eek: . I can do the 19th one but the 20th is really stretching it.

That dude is one weird cat the way he stretches with his pinkie to play on the same string in a lot of his licks instead of moving up a sting.

Oh, I have one of the instructional vids of him breaking down the solo, but if you have the tab where it also shows how it's supposed to be played there are a few parts where he is so fast I still can't tell how he is doing it. It's schmike28@hotmail.com. Thanks man.
