This dudes name barely ever comes up around here, I was wondering what everyone thought about him.

I think in creed... he wasnt great, but alter bridge is sweet now. His techniques and speed flew out the roof. Thats just my opinion tho. Thats why I'm putting this on the forum. What does everyone else think?

Tremonti is one of my all time favorites! And I think his song writing and riffs with Creed were some of the best I have ever heard. He has improved as far as the flashy speed type stuff goes recently. But I wouldnt say his songs have gotten any better.

impressive guitarist....not nearly as impressive songwriting. someone who'd fair well as a lead guitarist in a band where someone with creativity had creative control.

I second that.

He needs to start a metal band.

I think he brings an outstanding emotion to the band. I think that his writing is quite good actually. Compare him to alot of the other guitarists out there right now in Modern rock.

Yeah, Tremonti's songwriting is like STP or Pearl Jam minus all that, ya know, talent. I don't think the man believes in chord changes, or maybe that's just his horrendously muddy tone that renders most of the notes indefinable by the human ear. As a lead guitarist he has skill, but as a songwriter he has jack. Even Alterbridge is just Creed with solos and a worse vocalist (I know, I thought that would be impossible, too).

you think that Alterbridge is worse than Creed!! wow... I personally think that you cant find many good vocalists like myles kennedy at least in modern rock. Range is great and he has a very warm sounding voice. But of course everyone has there opinion around here so I wont abuse that.

As said in Guitar One magazine, he's been bale to play like that for a while, its just that it never fit in the creed picture. He said he's always writing new riffs, even right before shows. But he really doesn't have much to show for the hours he puts in trying to come up with riffs.

I haven't heard many songs by alter bridge except one they played a bit on the radio last year.

why would i want to limit myself to such a talentless pool of "musicians" as to just compare him to guitarists out there in modern rock? why settle for less when there's more and better out there!

Alter Bridge is the most talented band in their genre.... "modern alternative/pop rock" Mark Tremonti is a great guitarist regardless of his songwriting ability... I think they're a great band. I've seen them live once and they put on a great show.

jerry cantrell's band is way more talented and has better songwriting, guitar chops, and vocals...and if i'm not mistaken his work falls into the modern rock/pop rock category.

by the way, how is it alternative if it's mainstream? that's like saying avril lavigne is punk.

Jerry Cantrell was the guitarist from Alice in Chains.

The website for his solo material is here (http://jerrycantrell.com/).

point taken... I was trying to get at the fact that they're a lot more talented than most modern rock bands... I saw Cantrell at the House of Blues a few months back... Awesome band. But I've also seen Alter Bridge... also an awesome band. I don't prefer one or the other but I think in modern rock there isn't a better guitarist in the mainstream scene. (Aside from Slash in Velvet Revolver but he doesn't count). If you want some video testiment to how good Mark Tremonti is check out the videos at www.bill-peck.com

Tremonti shredded my face off at Pieres in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I stood right in front of him. AMAZED. Some other people I've seen in concert (so my opinion carries some weight) Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Sardinas, Jerry Cantrell, Metallica (Kirk Hammett), and Joe Bonamassa just to name a few...

wow, I'm suprised at the contoversy. Mark is a proven great songwriter. The guy has also proven to have great chops. People may argue bout his "style" but the guy is an undenialably great rock guitarist.

Mark is a proven great songwriter.
Although I think you could DISprove that by simply indicating any Creed song ever.

"The dust has finally settled on the field of human clay"

How dull.

Being a skilled guitarist doesn't make one a "great rock guitarist." Being a great rock guitarist comes from making great rock music. Mark Tremonti is a much more skilled player than, say, Angus Young, but as far as great rock guitarists go, people are more inclined to think of Young.

Creed is tainting his legacy. It'll always bring him down.

jerry also did a large chunk of the lead vocals and lyric writing (layne was overrated and given too much credit).
