recording software

Hey dude, just a quick post, me and my mate want to start recoring some songs just messing around. but which programs would you recomend obviously cubae, but there also things like cakewalk and reason. please if you have used any of them or all of em let me know what they r like to use. cheers :D

I use Cubase SX on my pc, its the next best thing to ProTools (which works best on Mac). It's not cheap but if you are thinking about reasonably serious home recording then I would advise this as an investment. Most professional recording studios have a copy of this on one computer so you can export directly and have an engineer master your home recordings. I invested in a Tascam US428 as an outboard soundcard, it's a cool addition to Cubase as you can use the faders and jogwheels etc which directly affect the software. This is very handy as using a mouse to turn little knobs and dials on the screen is soul destroying.

I use Magix Music Studio 10 and a soundblaster sound card. It's good software for eighty bucks. The tech support from Magix ain't that great though.

I use Cakewalk's Sonar, mostly b/c I started out with Pro Audio 9. Sonar is basically the updated version of Pro Audio 9. I don't have any problems at all with Sonar, easy to use and has plenty of features....
