I donno about you guys, but I personally find Dimebag's tone a bit to sour. A bit over distorted and grimmy. Maybe its the solid state amps, but I donno.
Am I the only one who thinks this way, cause apprently everyone adores him as if there was nothing better.

well off the top of my head i'd have to say John Fruciante of the chili peppers. At least on Californication and on.

And yeah, I agree on the Californication thing, he could have at least put a bit of overdrive so the notes sustain
