Usually 15 minutes, actually.

But unfortunatley most of us dont have Jolly's inhuman super powers to crap out a song every 15 minutes about any topic in the world. For me, personally, its really hard, and produces horrible results.

it used to take me months but the more I write the faster im getting. I wrote my last three songs in about a week for each song. But only two turned out really good the other one is just kind of cool. But I've been experimenting with ideas for about 8 hours a day for the past 1-2 years.

wowwwwww....well I was wondering..on the show Ty and Deanna wrote together..you guys find it easier to write alone or with another person? I haven't tried to really collaborate with anyone in song writing...

it would probabily be easier to write with another person, but I'd have to imagine that it would be a systematic approach that would be the most effective.
I would like to write a song, and the other song writter in my band to write a song, and then trade the songs. Then edit each others songs. That would never happen though because he is more interested in the art of making music, while im more interested in the art of making music commercial.
Even more so I would like to make my band learn music theory and then record our jam sessions and build the songs off of that.
But I dont want to hurt their ego by forcing it on them, and more importantly they just aren't interested in learning theory...

Well, are you writing lyrics or guitar parts? I'm going to talk about writing lyrics, just in case that's what you are doing. What I usually do is start writing lines that seem to make no sense, that rhyme, something nice sounding. After about three or four lines, I realize that what I am writing about I can actually relate to about something that has happened to me or my friends, or something I care about, something in my life. And isn't that what songs are generally supposed to be about? I write usually ska, so a lot of the songs end up about crazy **** that's happened at parties I've gone to or how funny cool people are when they're acting cool and how funny and brainless it is to see them make fun of uncool people (haha) or other random crap like that, etc. But try that out. If you're writing guitar stuff, forget everything I've just said.
