That is why Iron Maiden is, was, and always will be the greatest band ever.

And I shall be the first to say that it's a shame and I express my sympathy for Maiden. There's nothing justifiable about it in any way. My vote goes to Maiden 100%.

Alright, I read that and Im not 100% sure what really happened. Im a big Maiden fan and am interested to hear what went on.

...Wow. Just wow.
Maiden has contributed so much to the medium, it's not right or just to treat them like that.
at least the Ozzy camp ended up looking like complete and utter morons, and i'm glad that it only made Maiden play longer and harder... props to the fans for standing behind maiden, and letting sharon osbourne know what they thought of her.
ozzfest was cool the first couple years, but it's really fallen off in the past few. i'm really saddened that BLS would take part in this, they are a good band and i have a lot of respect for Zakk as a musician... it's just not cool to do that to a band like Maiden.

basically, some infighting between the Ozzy camp and Iron Maiden came to a head at the LA Ozzfest show. the sound guys kept cutting the PA and amps during the Maiden set and instead chanting "OZZY! OZZY!" into the mics from the booth; Sharon and Kelly Osbourne were trying to get member of other bands to chuck eggs at them while they performed, and then during the set they got all the participants into the front row to throw eggs, beer, spit, etc at Maiden while they performed.
the fans booed whenever the PA's were cut, and whenever this happened, Iron Maiden played harder, and said that instead of playing the short set they'd planned were going to play all night; they trashed the Ozzy camp further onstage, and the fans voted when they booed Sharon Osbourne when she came onstage and pelted her with everything they could. after the Iron Maiden set, half of the arena left.

Yeah, it's just a damn shame that someone in such a high status would resort to such childish behavior over a quarrel. Really, think about it. They could've just not booked Maiden for the next Ozzfest. I'm curious to see how next year's sales will compare.

No kidding, being that Maiden is regarded as God in some places.

Unbelievable! I can't believe anybody would do this kind of thing to Iron Maiden. Ozzy and the gang should have their ass kicked.

Wow. Throwing eggs at Iron Maiden is like taking a dump on the pope. What the hell were those osbourne whores thinking?
Akira
08-24-2005, 05:31 AM
I think the fact that Maiden stayed on stage after being pelted with eggs etc, and played a longer set, instead of going off stage, is a testimony to these legends.
Jee, i'm not even a Maiden fan.

Yes, Iron Maiden responded well.
Why do the ozzies not like them, anyways? How did this childish feud start?

Apparantely Sharon was pissed off at Bruce Dickinson for some stuff he said in a Kerrang interview.

Just in case anyone is too lazy to do a little google-fu, here's the other side (http://www.ozzfest.com/news_2005.html) of the incident.
In related news, the band "Bury Your Dead" have issued a statement of non-involvement (http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=40807).

That just rediculos, I think I lost most of my respect to ozzy. Like the guy said, Unless he stops being led around by his wife, I won;t being attending his shows. Good thing I didn't go to ozzfest this year.

Read it. Still no excuse for their actions. Also, whoever wrote that is a dumbass. The reason Iron Maiden brandishes the British flag during "The Trooper" is A. they're from britain, and B. the song is about a battle the british were in, not the Americans.

Yeah that article was pretty dumb. So Bruce may have been a prick but he didnt mess up one of Ozzy's performances.
And yeah, the trooper is about a battle where a ton of English guys were slaughtered against the Russians I believe.....

From what I've been reading there's already video and audio clips from this show out there floating around, but I haven't been able to locate any yet. If anyone happens to, please toss me a link.

Please, post that link.....

I'll check with Jon, but I'm pretty sure that any sharing of such files could potentially expose guitartricks.com to lawsuits and other assorted nastiness.
Unless he or I say otherwise, it's best that any sharing or discussing of it be conducted off this site via email or instant messanger.

I can understand the sharing of files....but the discussing? What happened to Freedom of Speech? I don't see how the site can get into any trouble b/c the members are discussing what happened....

I'll bet you Sharon organized the whole thing. I hate when a band member's woman tries to put her two cents in. I think most of us here know EXACTLY what I mean. But Sharon is also crazy, which makes it worse.
I've never really been into Maiden, but I respect them very much as musicians and what they've done for metal. What happened is just so childish and yet disgusting at the same time. F**k Sharon Osbourne.

Like in Spinal Tap? Dress them up like signs of the zodiac?
You KNOW you like Maiden. Don't lie. Go buy Powerslave and honestly tell me it doesn't rock your socks off.
I don't understand... why did they do that? Why would ANYONE do that to Maiden?

you know, I wasn't a real big iron maiden fan before. but, after reading that, I now have utmost respect for them.
I will personally try my best to never listen to an ozzy/sabbath song again. I will never watch the osbournes (never did anyways, and I think it's over now anyways) I will never give one cent of my money to that... well... what I want to call that family is not appropriate for this message board...
also, which is the best iron maiden cd, I think I'm gonna have to go buy one or two now, just out of respect for them.

I have Rock in Rio which I think presents a nice balance of their old and new material on top of being an outstanding live album.

All of them are excellent (with the exception of Brave New World...and Virtual XI and the X-Factor need time to grow on you).
But the albums I'd recommend for an introduction are:
Powerslave
The Number of the Beast
Piece of Mind
Anything with "Fear of the Dark" live on it
Fear of the Dark
Killers
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
No Prayer for the Dying
Iron Maiden
In that order.

Spinal Tap was the ultimate band. Nigel Tufnel could leave EVH whimpering in
the fetal position just with his snarl!!!
