palm muting

I've gone through the tutorials and I still cant seem to get this right... :confused:
Any tips for palm muting? I dont quite understand the tutorials...

Rest your picking hand palm right on the strings where they come out (not sure what your playing), then play the first couple strings. Muting closer to the nut will make a chunking sound as where twards the bridge it will we a softer mute.

Palm muting is more effective on a les paul type bridge, than on a strat bridge.
If you fret an E minor on the second fret( left hand ) and rest your right hand on the bridge with the bottom of your palm and wack the bass strings - it's most effective with heavy distortion - it produces a musical type drumming sound.
You can also try the same technique with a second fret A chord and any other chords on the three bass strings

Here I'm playing an open A chord and gradually bringing the palm of my right hand down over the bridge of the guitar so they start to sound muffled.
The more you raise your hand the clearer the sound gets.
Eventually you get to the point where you're using it like the dampening pedal on a piano.
