i actually use a bigger around slide and put it on my middle finger so then i can use my first and ring finger (those are the fingers i use the most) but i was thinking about getting a pinkie slide so i could use my first three fingers. that would be lovely...

jimmy paige (along with many other rock guitarists) used the pinky for hte slide, for the main reason of that most solos he did werent chickin pickin slide guitar. it was usually a few smoothe slides and a lick, which didnt require as much control on the slide. bluegrass and bottleneck players usually use hte ring finger so they can play chords with it. i think it comes down to whether you play licks or chords with the slide. i play wiht the pinky, but i dont play slide much, so i dont really know much, apart for some delta blues **** and a few slide guitar solos.

Open tuning I use pinky, sometimes ring finger, but on standard tuning I use pinky so I can chord, just gotta mute with right/picking hand so the notes come out clear.

I use whatever finger makes most sense for the song, but usually ring or pinky finger.

Do you use different guitars with preset tunings, or do you retune for different songs? I've never tried anything other than standard, i even rewrite Ebtuned songs to standard :o

I've always used ring. It's just feels right.

The great thing about slide is that there is not a "right" or "wrong" way. Do what sounds and feels right to you. The main thing is control of the slide. Use the finger that feels most comfortable. I started with pinky but realized I had more control with my ring finger, so I switched. As far as the type of slide...same principle. See which slide sounds and feels best to you. Brass, steel, glass, bone, ceramic, etc. See what you like and go with it. Make it your own and have fun.

I only play two songs with a slide, both of which are Zed Leppelin songs, and I use my ring. Pinky just didn't seam right to me. :(

Tip for playing Traveling Riverside Blues, if you ever learn to, or want to learn to. Use a double neck with the twelve string neck set to slide tuning, and the six string neck set standard, and use the standard tuning for the solo, much easier. ;)

Depends on the song I'm playing. When I play No More Tears it's on my middle finger. You can use it on your ring or pinky but I find it more comfortable on my middle finger though.
