Well mainly because people pay to advertise on GT or we arrange a link exchange. If you look on the main page you will see a bunch of links where this process has worked out.

However we also have enough trouble (dealt with by the mods) keeping people from trying to plug anything from there site selling stolen cigarettes to someone wanting to up the number of hits there crappy website gets in-order to generate advertising revenue. This is seen as span and disposed off so as not to dilute the positive things about the GT forum.

IMHO I think GT is works better as a portal rather than as a conduit.

Ditto what Dr. Simon said. Half of what gets posted here is spam.

Generally we don't mind guitar spam, and we don't mind long term members posting links to their own sites.

If we had an index, people would just start bugging me to get on the list (when am i gonna get on the list? how bout now? how bout now? this would be really valuable to your users....a new breakthrough in guitar!..etc).

Just bookmark them if you like them.
