No! It was the Spaniards - and it was a battle for Texas...

It's where Davey Crockett died... :(

I mean, I don't remember the Alamo... :o

And don't forget Jim Bowie was there too! Those few Americans valiantly fought against Santa Anna and literally hundreds upon hundreds of Mexican troops at the Alamo. I was just there this past January. It's surprisingly small....

well you know, i grew up in seattle, and the pacific northwest was, being the last part of the US settled, one of the last native american strongholds. The Salish tribe were a bunch of barbaric psychos, they were absolutely horrible, they'd come through on their horses doing war whoops, gratuitously slaughtering mothers and baby, raping our attractive young women, etc.

Oh wait a second, I think I may have gotten the parties mixed up... uh, sorry, I haven't had my caffiene dose today so sometimes things get mixed up.

Actually Seattle was one of the few areas where the natives and the immigrants got along mostly alright... the tribes in that area were peaceful (actually... most US tribes were) and mostly traders. The settlers were mostly Swedish, Norwegian and German lumberjacks that really had no desire to get into combat with anyone. The area around Seattle started to become popular because it's the closest point in the US to the orient (save for Alaska, which is separated from the mainland US by Canada) and is also only a couple hundred miles away from Vancouver, BC; great trading hub. More and more people came to settle and the area grew.

The local tribes were at a loss for what to do, so their chief, who was strangely enough named Seattle, decided that in light of the treatment that the other tribes got when they tried to fight, the best thing to do was to be peaceful and try to assimilate. It must be said, Seattle is probably one of the best integrated cities in the US, at least from what I've seen.

this is his speech, for anyone who'd like to read it. http://www.synaptic.bc.ca/ejournal/SeattleSpeechVersion2.htm it's pretty damn sad.

It's just so funny, because we were the total aggressors/enslavers.
