For the past 3 days i've been experiencing pain in my left hand (my fretting hand). The pain is mostly a dull pain, but sometimes it can be pretty sharp. It is located on and between my middle and ring finger knuckles. I've layed off the guitar for a few days and have been taking some Ibuprofen along the way.
Any suggestions as to what this may be? How it may have been caused? What I can do to solve the problem and ensure it doesn't happen again?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I miss my guitar already. :(
Have you been doing more stretching between those fingers than usual, or playing faster for longer? I had a similar problem, and ended up going to see the doc.
For me it was a few weeks off, and then concentrating on my technique - one of my fingers was kinda falling over, increasing the stretch in the tendons on the others.... it seems much better now...

Well originally I didn't play for 3 days (due to College stuff), but then I finished College for summer, so I played for two days, about 5 hours each day, then it started hurting. =/

If you have incorrect form, and play for those kinds of extended periods, you might cause some pain to your hand. Is the area inflamed at all?

There appears to be no swelling. Does this mean it's nothing too serious?

I'd take it easy for a few days and see if it gets better.

It's better today than it has been previously, I think i'll start playing guitar again on Sunday. Hopefully by then it would have cleared up some more. Thanks for the help.
