It's unfair to compare Velvet Revolver to Guns N' Roses. Velvet Revolver sounds like Stone Temple Pilots with Slash on guitar.

Velvet Revolver is damn good, but GNR are legendary. I have my doubts about Chinese Democracy. If it actually does come out, (this album has been supposed to come out since 1999), I have a feeling it won't meet with the commercial success Axl is hoping for. I envision a botched tour, and many more years of reclusion. Aren't I cheery?

Hm... Velvet Revolver is heading a different direction than G&R was... so it is kind of an unfair comparison. I love G&R... but I hate Axl. I mean... I'm from Lafayette, IN, Axls hometown and I STILL don't like him. So I could care less how the album is. It won't be anything like the old G&R. I also think it will sell more records than VR's album... but people will buy it out of hype and curiosity not becuase it's good. VR will be a better band in the end...

I saw the Behind the Music, pretty badass.

I love Guns n Roses but I know nothing Axl can pull out of his ass will ever match up to the old GNR. Axls just holding on to the name because of the glory it held. The name is legendary, but I know his album will bomb.

As for Velvet Revolver, they have hardly any similarities to GNR. I really do not like VR, but like I said I love Guns n Roses.I really dont think Velvet Revolver will be remembered 20, 30 years from now. All I know is that nothing can ever blow up as big as GNR did.

Ugh it pains me when I think "what if Axl wasnt an ass?" What would have happened? Would they still be around making crappier music by the year? Or would they have ultimatley destroyed themselves anyways, through means of alcohol or some form of drug addiction......

Did anyone catch the MTV music award, oh 3 or so years ago? That was the one where GNR came out as a surprise act at the end of the show. Buckethead was playing!!!

Axl's voice was totally shot. I have a feeling too many years of cigarette smoking and whiskey-drinking has irrevocably blown out his signature voice. A damn shame... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cmmsdm/smilies/bigcry.gif

For them to be called Gn'R is just wrong. The old Gun are dead.

the only way they will be Gn'r is for them to all get back to gether..

axle on vocals.. and slash on lead.. like the old day..

I love Buckethead, he's a freak on the guitar. His albums kinda leave something to be desired, because most of the tracks are just Les Claypool being goofy while buckethead plays some stuff in the background. But on the actual song tracks, it's pure gold.

I heard that Buckethead quit GNR. How are they going to release an album or go on tour without him? As far as I know that haven't replaced him yet.

GNR has been saying that the album was coming out in a couple of months for something like five years now. I'm wondering if that Nov 28 release date is for real. Maybe they mean Nov 28 2006 or 7.

I can't wait to hear it if it actually comes out before Axl becomes a senior citizen.

Slash rules, axl is a pompus Ahole. GnR will never be GnR no matter how good the band does or does not. A band can loose 1 band mate and pull it off, but 4 at once ....nope.

Buckethead plays a lot more with Bootsie than he does with Les.

And on that note, I think I'm going to put Somewhere Over the Slaughterhouse on and enjoy the weirdness.

I guess Ozzy even has his limits. Don't get me wrong, Bukethead is a phenomanal guitar player, but he wears a mask with a KFC bucket on his friggin head. Satan himself would probably say, "That guy's f***ed up!"

Basically all anyone needs to knwo is that Slash is GOD! Everythign he's done has been exquisite, both slash's snakepit albums had its moments, and also the blues ball wasnt bad at all. He is the last guitar legend. Noone has been better than him since the "Live Era" and i doubt many will.

So the answer to your questions is NO. Guns N Roses is nothign without Slash or Izzy (explains the spaghetti incident). Axl will continue living in a daze and beleive that he is GnR but we, the true fans know that he aint [I didn't read the rule about bypassing the language filter (http://guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10453)]. I dont think any band will ever amount to GnR of the early 90s, whoever you put in.

Before Bucket head Axl wanted Dave Navaro from the chilis and Janes addiction. Hes just tried to brign in some big names. Aint gonna work. I liked one song from the demos for Chinese Democracy, i think it was madagasca, havent listen to it in ages tho.

Go to Rhapsody.com, they give 25 free plays and time to check out what they have. I thought the price was right so I joined.

By the way, am I the only one that thinks that the "Use Your Illusions" were better than Appitite?
Just listening to songs like "Estranged" makes me realize what GNR was capable of at the time. Most songs that long usually have long interludes of weird noises or something for a while, but Estranged is just great music for 9 1/2 minutes. In my opinion, it was a group of excellent musicians in their prime, at their best and they all complimented each other. I don't think that Axl can top that, especially by himself. Not with Buckethead, Navarro, Wylde, Van Halen(that would be interesting though,) or anybody else.

I hope he proves me wrong, but it will take a miracle.

My favorite Buckethead song is 'Binge and Grab'. You should try and get that one if you can. It's one of my favorite songs period.

I can say that Guns is the band who really established the mainstream shred genre, thanks to them. I just feel sad grunge overcame them. but I hope there will be new bands who will stand out and bring the Shred revolution back just like GNR did last decade.

Sweet Child O mine will someday replace Stairway to Heaven by LEd Zep as the most popular solo ever.

Slash for me is the most soulful guitarist in the early nineties, combining his vintage influenced chops, blues licks with glam rock sensibilities. Buckethead is also awesome. He is faster and more technically advanced than Slash, but he lacks the feel and vibrato Slash provides and possess. Anyway I like both of them, they have different approach to guitar playing.

Do you know that Slash once auditioned for Poison in the mid eighties for the guitarist position that C.C.DeVille eventually filled. 3 extra anecdotes and gossips appear why he was rejected.

1) one claims that Slash refused to join because he didn't want to do all the hair and makeup,

2) the other says he was rejected for not being pretty enough!

3) Brett Michaels dont find him good enough and lacks showmanship. ( Like jumping up and down the stage which C.C does. )

After C.C left the band, maybe Poison regrets their decision for not taking Slash. They cant hire him any more because GNR is already more famous than them at that time. Instead they hired Ritchie Kotzen. :
