currently I am playing with a Lws Paul which has a set bridge. I am looking to buy a new guitar with a tremelo system for that versitility. This is what I aant in my guitar.....

1. A Fender Strat or something like it

2. Blue (placid lake)

3. A trem system with a locking nut. I don't much about trem systems cause I don't use em. Which one's are good? You need a locking nut to keep it in tume right?

4. I want to spend between 600-1000 dollars Canadian.

What guitar do you guys think would be good for me?

Thanks for your time.

As far as trems are concerned-
The stock Strat trem has an iffy record when it comes to staying in tune... it seems to vary from guitar to guitar, and just how much you ream on that bar. You don't neccesarily need a locking nut for it to stay in tune; a roller nut (or even a stock nut) will work just fine depending on the guitar. SO ANYWAY, the basic rule is that if you're going to be doing extream vibrato (divebombing, etc) you'll probably want a floyd rose style whammy bar with a locking nut. If you're just going to do some slight stuff for the most part shop around and find a Strat that stays in tune well with that sort of thing. And you will have to shop around, you can take any 5 strats with exactly the same set up, and they'll all behave differently when you use your tremlo.

The long and short of this really is that you should go to every guitar shop in your area, and play every guitar they have until you find THE STRAT (or Strat clone) for you. I bought my strat when I came in looking for a mic cable... I just turned around and there it was (I didn't see the other two Strats next to it for atleast half an hour after I had played it, put it back, and tried it again).
Well, good luck.

Check out the current "American Standard Strat". The workmanship & feel is almost as good as the "Artist" series Strats. Also check out any models that have "Texas Special" pickups. As for the trem, the Hipshot Tremsetter", is a very good product to stabilize a Strat's standard trem. I use one on my SRV Strat.

First off decide what you want a floyd rose (locking nut) or a synchronized tremolo floyds are hard to change strings especially when you break em if you wanna go that way though visit http://www.musiciansfriend.com and look up the Richie Sambora strat it comes in blue locking trem rosewood fretboard and a dimarzio paf pickup in the bridge but if you wanna regular trem to stay in tune just buy a regular strat and put locking tuners on it or a graphite nut (what yngwie uses) hope you find what you want bye.

I can't vouch for the American Standard Series guitars, but I can tell you the current crop of American Standard basses is absolutely horrid. A bottom line DeArmonde Pilot Bass (made by Fender mind you) kicks the snot out of all of the American Standard basses I've played lately. Now I'm talking playability, tone, and overall feel here. Though I think some good action work would help them out a lot, I'm in general highly unimpressed with Fender these days.
