Hey everyone,
well I am 15 and just picked up my first guitar tonite. I have picked at one before, but was never really sure what I was doing. If anyone knows any basics, like what strings are what, etc or any other basic info it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
Just look around on this site. There are ton's of resources to get you started. The first thing you'll want to do, if you haven't already, is to learn to read tabs. Just do a search on tablature.

you should focus on how to read the chromatic scale, the tabs, how to hold the guitar how, even how to hold the pick.
This may seem stupid at first but be patient and practice and you'll be shredd the sky in no time. ;)

Hope that's ok, any problems, then call back in here. :)

Even After Dinner, Giant Boys Eat= EADGBE
After careful consideration, i realize that that may not help. You could do what i did and buy a beginners guitar DVD or something like that. beleive me, that'll help a whole lot. Plus get a teacher if you can afford one.

Hey,
This one usually works for me:
Easter Bunnys Get Drunk At Easter ( as written by Akira)
although I first learnt it as:
Even After Dinner, Giant Boys Eat
Note the first letter of each of the above words...those are your strings:
EBGDAE
You have two E strings, one high E and one low...when we say high we dont mean high on your guitar (quite the opposite), we are talking about its sound
the first E (of EBGDAE) is the thinest string on your guitar, the B is your second thinnest (second from down) and so on...the fattest string (first from top) is the other E (which is your low E)
I would suggest you get yourself a good DVD or some other such material to learn the basics or if you can afford it take a few classes...otherwise it can get quite frustrating and you might leave this wonderful instrument without actually giving it a real shot.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Mag
