Guitar Newbie

Hey guys, i just bought a new eletric guitar (BC Rich Warlock, mick thompson edition) a few days ago, and ive been searching all over the net to try and learn the basics.

First, i learned how to tune the guitar by using AP Tuner, which is a great program. I plugged my guitar into my mic slot on my computer, and it like detected what strings i was playing, and helped me tuned them.

I read and did all the steps on this tuturial by Jon Broderick, http://guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=1740 which helped me understand everything better.

Now what i want to do, is play a song i enjoy. I love New Found Glory and Yellowcard, so i guess what im asking is what song from these 2 artists would be easy for a complete newbie on guitar, any ideas?

What song would be easy for my first song to learn? Or am i even moving to fast to play this kinda stuff and sould i do more tuturials?

The second one is easier then the first and is ok to play as a beginner. You will get frustrated from chord changes...Make sure to play it with proper style and not learn any bad habits ie. be sure to use all your fingers and not just your index. You can get by with playing songs you like...not learn chords first as most people do.

Although it is useful to learn the basic open major and minor chords. After that you may want to learn the minor pentatonic scale.

What is the basic open major and minor chords... Is it just like 1 chord, or is a whole bunch of different ones in differenent ways. I think now im getting confused cause i cant in any way play either one of the songs i posted. I dont even know where to start and im sweating like crazy and all im doing is sitting here with a guitar in my lap :confused:

A chord, as you already seem to know, is a bunch of notes sounded together. There are 7 main major chords, and 7 main minor chords, learning these chords helps build finger strength and flexability, and it a starting point for delving into other things with guitar. Try a search on the site to see if there's anything that explains it better than I do, sorry, i'm very tired. :p
