speaker hookup ??

I'm building a bass cab with two 15in. speakers rated 200w. Do I hook them up in series or parallel? Should it be closed back, ported or open back? Help please.... thankx and Peace

Well open back and closed back, like your choice of wood will give a distinct type of sound. Which do you want to sound like ?

Speaker configuration will determine impedance (you need to talk to LATS about this).

What ohm are the speakers, and what ohm does the amp to be used need to see?

I believe, for bass cabinets you would want a closed back. Since bass tones are made by the speaker cone moving the air, you would want to create more air pressure behind the cone. If you used an open back cab you would lose that kick of bass and end up getting a bass tone with more treble. So, I would go with a closed back with port holes (allows air to escape the box) OR you can do a 3/4 closed back... where you only close in the area directly behind the speakers leaving a portion open toward the bottom of the box. This will give the amp plenty of open space to breath as well as convey the bass tones appropriatly... but I don't build speaker boxes or anything... and I'm only using my engineering background to give an educated explanation of what I would do. Wait for LATS to go more in detail about speaker wiring.

If you want a bass cab with two 15" speakers start out with your amp. Can you put out 400w into 4 ohms? Then use two speakers in parallel if thay are 8 ohm speakers. If not other pathes of lojic will persist. Close back is a good idea but one or two 4" ports arnt a bad idea eaither. Ported frount is not a bad idea but if the back is allready ported than porting the frount is a waist of time.

I recommend closed back cabs for bass. Parallel connection generally smooths out any slight differences in the speakers, but be careful not to get a net cab impedance that's too low.
